Crowdfunding to finalize v2 software

We are launching a crowdfunding that will help us achieve the goal of the v2 migration in march 2025. Here is a translation of the text originally published on HelloAsso fundraising platform https://www.helloasso.com/associations/axiom-team/collectes/finalisation-de-cesium-v2-et-duniter-v2.

🏠 A new home for the Ğ1

The Ğ1 house welcomed its first residents on March 8, 2017. These 59 people, connected by 551 certifications, gradually saw their house evolve (initially Duniter 1.0 and Cesium 1.0), furnish itself (with tools like wotwizard, wotmap...), and new inhabitants move in. Today, we are more than 8,400 members linked by over 102,000 certifications, and we currently reside in Duniter 1.8.7 and Cesium 1.7.14, which have facilitated over 580,000 transactions!

However, by July 2021, the need arose to move into a larger house capable of accommodating more residents. Thus, the project of rewriting was born. Euro funding in 2022 allowed the foundations (Duniter v2) to be built, and now we have walls and a roof. This new house excites us, but it is still very uncomfortable: it lacks doors and windows!

Our goal is to finalize version 2 of the software (notably Cesium v2) for a move on March 8, 2025, the anniversary of Ğ1! We need your support to cross this crucial milestone in the community's journey, which represents a major turning point in the development of its software ecosystem.

Version 2 of the software: a new home for Ğ1!

πŸ‘‰ Why do we need you?

The funding from 2022 (crowdfunding and ADEME) allowed the main construction to be completed, but those resources have run out. The amount of work needed to finish the project far exceeds the availability of volunteers. Without your help, we would be forced to make concessions, either on the quality of the finish or on the delivery date, which neither we nor the Ğ1 community desire.

That’s why we are launching this crowdfunding campaign. The funds raised will allow us to hire full-time developers to complete the project on time while maintaining the quality level.

Your help, whether financial or by simply sharing this campaign, will make a huge difference. Together, we can make this project a success. Breakdown of expenses:

  1. 1️⃣ First milestone: €6,000 - 3 months full-time (Nov-Dec-Jan) for a developer supervised by Kimamila (@BenoitLavenier) working on Cesium v2, which is absolutely necessary to make progress. Without this, we would have to rely on other v2 clients (currently only Ğecko, which is mobile-only).
  2. 2️⃣ Second milestone: €12,000 - Another 3 months full-time (Nov-Dec-Jan) for Benjamin Gallois, who has already proven himself on Duniter and Duniter-Squid. Duniter still needs to gain stability and user-friendliness to be easily installable by everyone (for example, via the Yunohost package).
  3. 3️⃣ Third milestone: €18,000 - 3 more months full-time (Feb-Mar-Apr) for Benjamin Gallois to add practical features to Duniter (such as network discovery for rpc endpoints and indexers).
  4. 4️⃣ Fourth milestone: €24,000 - Another 3 months full-time (Feb-Mar-Apr) for Hugo Trentesaux, who will be unemployed starting in December and may seek another job if not supported.
  5. 5️⃣ Fifth milestone: €36,000 - A necessary working capital to allow the Axiom Team association to continue its activities as described in our fall newsletter.

Final beneficiaries of the fundraising

The beneficiaries of the collected funds will be the developers mentioned above, through the Axiom-Team association. The association's accounts are published on the free currency forum in the dedicated category: https://forum.monnaie-libre.fr/c/associations/axiom-team/115.
